The Original Ceiling
History
The historic section of our house encompasses the front bedroom, hallway, sitting room, and kitchen. Notably, the carpeted staircase inside the house was originally an outdoor stairwell, a vestige you can still observe in the neighbouring property. This unique staircase features slightly wider steps than traditional indoor staircases and once served as a place for fishermen to hang their nets for drying. The shower room, sitting room and two bedrooms upstairs are also the original house. They were all one room, again for mending the fishing nets so they could be laid out flat. The house had a bunnen bed recessed into the wall (the sitting room and kitchen downstairs!) with a curtain for privacy. The downstairs bedroom features the original fireplace, which we've preserved as a testament to the house's rich history. Additionally, we've chosen to leave the hall ceiling untouched, retaining its period charm, along with the original paint, as a tribute to the house's authenticity and heritage.
